Athens Academy is pleased to announce that Kavya Menke and Alex Oh are the valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, for the Class of 2021. The class of 83 seniors will graduate on Sunday, May 23, at 4:00 p.m. at the Classic Center.

Kavya is the daughter of Sujata Iyengar and Richard Menke of Athens. She is a National Merit finalist and a member of the Cum Laude Society, the National Honor Society, and the Latin Honor Society. Kavya was selected for the Georgia Governor’s Honors Program for 2020 in the subject of Latin. She competed on the varsity track and field team for all four years of Upper School in addition to serving as the vice president of the Watson Brown Junior Historic Board. Kavya will be attending Duke University this fall.

Alex is the son of Candice Kang and Eugene Oh of Watkinsville. He is a National Merit finalist and a member of the Cum Laude Society, the National Honor Society, the Tri-M Music Honor Society, and the Spanish Honor Society. He is an accomplished musician, playing both viola and piano throughout his middle and high school years. Alex is a longtime volunteer for the Athens Area Homeless Shelter and also serves the Boys and Girls Club, Books for Keeps, the Athens Community Council on Aging, and more. He is a member of the Athens Clarke County Mayor’s Youth Commission and served on Student Council during his sophomore and junior years. Alex will be attending Columbia University this fall.
