Friday, March 5th, 2021

Athens Academy is pleased to announce that junior Alexis Keeney has been named a 2021 Carson Scholar by the Carson Scholars Foundation, created by world-renowned pediatric neurosurgeon Benjamin S. Carson, M.D. and his wife, Candy. This year marked the 25th year for the organization, which gave out its 10,000th scholarship this spring.

Alexis is one of approximately 650 students across the country to be recognized for demonstrating “the highest standards of academic achievement, integrity, civic and social responsibility.” Only one student can be nominated from each school, and only students in grades 3-11 are eligible.

In addition to taking three block-schedule AP classes this semester and working part-time, Alexis also holds a leadership role with the Athens Academy CARE Club and volunteers countless hours in her community through her church. She will receive a $1,000 scholarship from the organization. Alexis is the daughter of Roger and Kim Keeney of Athens.

Athens Academy is an independent, co-educational school for students in K3 through 12th grade, located on a beautiful 152-acre campus in Northeast Georgia. Now in its 54th year, Athens Academy pursues its mission of “excellence with honor” through academics, athletics, fine arts, and service and leadership. Ranked the #1 private school in Athens and #1 private high school outside Metro Atlanta (Niche.com). Top Ten School in the State for STEM Education (Newsweek).
