GDOT Seeks Public Input for Bridge Replacement on SR 15/SR 10 Loop at SR 8/US 29 Until Nov. 16th
Monday, October 26th, 2020
The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is seeking public input on a proposal to replace the bridges located on State Route (SR) 15/SR 10 Loop at SR 8/US 29. GDOT will accept online feedback on the proposed project and the detours during construction until Monday, November 16.
The project is planned to improve structural integrity on the bridges, bring the bridges up to current design standards, reduce deterioration of the bridge decks, and improve vertical clearance. Twin 315-foot long bridges would replace the existing 298-foot long twin bridges along SR 15/SR 10 Loop over SR 8/US 29. The replacement bridges will be raised three feet to meet minimum vertical clearance under the bridge and accommodate concrete beams. A half-mile off-site detour on Old Hull Road and Athena Drive is required for construction.
Both bridges were built in 1961 using structural features that do not meet current design standards and unknown foundations. The SR 15 westbound bridge currently has low vertical clearance with steel beams that have been hit numerous times by over height trucks. The proposal would use modern design standards and resolve vertical clearance issues by raising the bridge.
Residents can visit the proposed project websites housed on the public outreach page of the GDOT's website. The project website has links to maps and information about the proposed projects. Website visitors can review project plans and also leave comments and feedback for response from the GDOT. Residents who live in the proximity of the proposed project were mailed postcards with the website address and information about the comment period.
