Trees Coming Down on Clayton in Next Phase of Athens Streetscape Project

Workers began taking down east Clayton Street’s trees Tuesday.
Crews from Covington’s Arbor Equity — a metro Atlanta tree, shrub and turf treatment company — deployed chainsaws and cherry pickers on downtown Clayton Street at its intersections with Thomas and Lumpkin streets to remove tall oaks in the next phase of the Clayton streetscape project, years in the making.
