The Lyndon House Arts Center will present the July "Third Thursday Artist Gallery Talks" on Thursday, July 18 at 6:00 p.m. highlighting two exhibits currently on view.

Nena Gilreath’s contribution to the Collections from our Community is her fantastic group of Barbie dolls. “I was born in 1964 and the world was a place that I had to look for myself and look for images that I could relate to. Once I received my first Barbie, I was hooked because she was a cool independent lady that had everything and a real enterprising person. She was fashion forward and seemed to be a career girl. I loved collecting her clothes and creating fashion shows. The only thing better than Barbie was when I received my Black doll, Julia. She was beautiful and a career girl. The best part of her was that her skin was chocolate like mine. Back then Black dolls did not exist and it was hard to see yourself as a young Black girl anywhere.” – Nena Gilreath, Supervisor East Athens Educational Dance Center.

Immediately following is an artist talk by Lounge Gallery artist Sarah Cowan White. Sarah’s exhibit is entitled Easement. This exhibition includes a series of paintings representing and interpreting interior spaces. “Easement is a right of way giving persons other than the owner access to or over a property. This legal experience is usually a temporary entrance into or use of someone’s private space. I see a clear connection between this type of agreement, and the relationship of a viewer with a piece of art. This intentional avoidance of trespass or misdemeanor is especially relevant to my current series in progress, which displays vignettes of domestic spaces.” – Sarah Cowan White

Light refreshments will be served. All Lyndon House Arts Center exhibitions are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon to 9:00 p.m., and Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
