Alan Morgan, MD, a neurohospitalist with St. Mary's Health Care System, has received the Community Faculty of the Year Award for the Northeast Georgia Region from the Augusta University/University of Georgia Medical Partnership and the Medical College of Georgia.

In addition, Dr. Morgan received the Neurology Faculty of the Year Award, which made him eligible to receive the broader award.

Awards are presented annually to outstanding community faculty in each Medical College of Georgia region. Community faculty are practicing physicians who choose to help further the education of medical students. They are nominated for the awards by local clerkship directors, then students vote to confirm the nominations and determine the winner.

"It is always a pleasure to have community faculty like Dr. Morgan who give of their time to help educate the next generation of physicians," said Bob Satonic, MD, Campus Assistant Dean for Clinical Curriculum. "Without them, we could not exist.

"It is also important to recognize institutions like St. Mary's for their support in ensuring that we can deliver our educational programs," Dr. Satonic said. "We congratulate and thank Dr. Morgan for winning the award as the Community Faculty of the Year of the Northeast Region."

Dr. Morgan, a resident of Oconee County, provides neurosciences care to inpatients at St. Mary's Health Care System in partnership with John Edry, MD. By limiting their practice to hospital inpatients with disorders of the brain and spine, they are able to focus entirely on patients experiencing the most serious neurological conditions, including stroke, aneurysm and epilepsy.
