The Athens-Clarke County Public Utilities Department (PUD) recently released the 2018 Annual Water Quality Report. The report, also known as the Consumer Confidence Report (CCR), is a performance measure of the quality of tap water supplied to customers throughout Athens-Clarke County.
“Athens-Clarke County is dedicated to providing our community with quality drinking water,” states Water Conservation Coordinator, Laurel Loftin. “We are pleased to announce our water once again meets or exceeds the water quality standards set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The Water Quality Report provides our customers with information regarding our drinking water sources, testing conducted on the water, and how our drinking water complies with the drinking water regulations.”
The 2018 Annual Water Quality Report is available online www.accgov.com/ccr. The report will be mailed directly to water utility customers before July 1, 2019 and is also available in hard copy at the Public Utilities Department located at 124 E. Hancock Ave.
Public Utilities conducts extensive water quality testing on a daily basis to ensure drinking water meets all compliance standards established by the EPA and the Georgia Environmental Protection Division. The JG Beacham Drinking Water Treatment Plant has had no violations and was recently awarded the Georgia Association of Water Professionals 2019 Platinum Award for water treatment quality.
Loftin applauds the laboratory staff for their dedication to the community. “Our lab supervisor, technicians, and operators conducts tens of thousands of tests throughout the year to ensure our water is safe and in compliance,” she says. “They are proud of their work and take pride in knowing their work makes a difference in people’s lives.”
