Red Cross Calls for Georgia Volunteers to Install 3,000 Free Smoke Alarms, April 20th–May 11th
Friday, April 5th, 2019
To help prevent needless tragedies in Georgia, the Red Cross and partners are seeking local volunteers to help Sound the Alarm at 13 home fire and smoke alarm education events. Volunteers are needed to canvass neighborhoods and install free smoke alarms, replace batteries in existing alarms, help families create home fire escape plans and provide logistical support.
OUR CAMPAIGN TO #ENDHOMEFIRES Home fires are the nation’s most frequent disaster and kill seven people each day—often in homes without working smoke alarms. Sound the Alarm events are part of the Home Fire Campaign, which the Red Cross launched in 2014 to reduce fire deaths and injuries. So far, with the help of local partners and volunteers, it has reached more than 1.7 million people and saved more than 552 lives nationwide, including the Bell family of seven from LaGrange, Georgia.
Sound the Alarm volunteer events are suitable for church and civic groups, co-workers and other adults (ages 18 and up) who want to spend a day making a hands-on difference in the lives of others. Day-of instruction, supplies and lunch will be provided. Children 12 years of age and up are also permitted to assist with guidance from their parent or guardian.
Please register today at www.soundthealarm.org to volunteer for one or more of the following dates/locations. Opportunities are on a first-come, first-serve basis:
