Indian River Transport Company announced that it plans to build a new trucking terminal in Cordele, Crisp County, Georgia.  The new facility will have frontage along Interstate 75 at Exit 102.

The Cordele terminal will include offices, truck bays, washout facilities, and an asphalt pad of about eight acres for trailer storage.  Construction should begin in mid-2019.  Once completed, Indian River anticipates hiring approximately 125 people, with about 100 of those being commercial truck drivers.

Indian River is a privately-owned food grade tank carrier providing transportation services throughout the United States, while also offering import/export services between the US, Canada and Mexico.  The company is recognized nationwide as a leader in the trucking industry. Much of its liquid freight includes milk, various juices, and other beverages.

With corporate headquarters in Winter Haven, Florida, Indian River’s fleet consists of over 600 tractors & 900 trailers.  Its tractors are less than three years old and its stainless steel tankers range in capacity from 6,200 gallons to 7,000 gallons.  The Cordele terminal will be its sixth satellite facility, joining others in Visalia, California, Clovis, New Mexico, Mission, Texas, Bensalem, Pennsylvania, and Avondale, Arizona.

Mr. Sam Farrow, Chairman of the Crisp County-Cordele Industrial Development Authority, commented, “Cordele is very pleased to have a new corporate citizen of the caliber of Indian River Transport.  It is a great company with a proven track record of success throughout the United States.”  Likewise, Mr. Rusty Slade, Chairman of the Cordele-Crisp County Industrial Development Council commented, “Our community is excited with this latest economic development success.  It confirms that Cordele’s strategic location along Interstate 75 provides superior transportation advantages to companies which hope to serve the Southeastern United States.  Mr. John Wiggins, Chairman of the Cordele City Commission, summed up the community’s thoughts: “This announcement is great for both Indian River and our local citizens.  While Indian River will no doubt prosper and profit in its new Cordele location, so too, will our citizens benefit from the great jobs to be created.  Thank you Indian River for this vote of confidence in our community.”

In addition to officials from Cordele and Crisp County governments, others were beneficial to this project.  In particular, Mr. Wally Summers, Vice President of Economic Development of South Georgia Technical College, and Ms. Anna Hurt, Regional Representative of the Georgia Department of Economic Development provided their resources and insights to the project.
