Governor Deal Appoints 11 to State Boards

Robert W. Krueger, Jekyll Island State Park Authority (reappointment)
Krueger is the owner of Krueger Family Farms. He retired as chairman of the ComSouth Corporation board and as treasurer of the Georgia Telecommunications Association. Krueger earned a bachelor’s degree from Mississippi State University and a master’s degree from the University of Georgia. He is an Eagle Scout and a former officer in the U.S. Navy. Krueger and his wife, Carol, have three children and three grandchildren. They reside in Hawkinsville.
Hugh “Trip” Tollison, Jekyll Island State Park Authority (reappointment)
Tollison is the president and CEO of the Savannah Economic Development Authority and the World Trade Center Savannah. He sits on the boards of directors for the Georgia International and Maritime Trade Center Authority, the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce, the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force and the United Way of the Coastal Empire. Tollison is a former vice chairman of the Georgia Housing and Finance Authority. He is a former chairman of the Second Harvest Food Bank board of directors and a former trustee for the Leadership Georgia Foundation. Tollison is also a graduate of Leadership Savannah and Leadership Georgia. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia. Tollison and his wife, Tracey, have two children and live in Savannah.
Carole C. Boyce, Joint Study Committee on the Establishment of a State Accreditation Process
Boyce has served on the Gwinnett County Board of Education for 14 years and is now serving this year as chairman. She previously taught in DeKalb County. Boyce sits on the board of trustees and the board of directors for the Leadership Gwinnett Foundation. She is active with numerous community organizations including Gwinnett Clean and Beautiful. Boyce earned a bachelor’s degree from Furman University and a master’s degree in Education from Georgia State University. She and her husband, Peter, have six children and nine grandchildren. They reside in Dacula.
Don Doran, Joint Study Committee on the Establishment of a State Accreditation Process
Doran is the head of schools at Drew Charter. He has more than 30 years of experience with Atlanta Public Schools as a teacher, coach, curriculum specialist and principal. Doran is a graduate of Leadership Atlanta and received a Fulbright-Hayes Scholarship. He sits on the Georgia Public Broadcasting board of directors and previously sat on the board for Hands on Atlanta. Doran earned a bachelor’s degree from Taylor University, a master’s degree in education and an education specialist degree from Georgia State University. He and his wife, Nancy, have four children and live in Atlanta.
Dr. Curtis Jones, Joint Study Committee on the Establishment of a State Accreditation Process
Jones is the superintendent of the Bibb County School District. During his career in education, he has worked as a JROTC instructor, high school principal and assistant superintendent. Jones was previously a governing board member for the American Association for School Administrators. He is also a former president of the Georgia School Superintendents Association (GSSA) and a recipient of the Bill Bar Leadership Award from GSSA. Jones is a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired as a lieutenant colonel. He is a graduate of West Point. Jones and his wife, Evelyn, have three children and two grandchildren. They reside in Griffin.
Rep. Valencia Stovall, Joint Study Committee on the Establishment of a State Accreditation Process
Stovall represents the 74th district in the Georgia House of Representatives. She is a member of the Education, Small Business Development, Economic Development & Tourism and Interstate Cooperation committees. Stovall was appointed by House Speaker Ralston to serve as a member of the National Council of State Legislators Education Standing Committee. She is a Council of State Governments Henry Toll Fellow and was recognized as a “Woman in Politics Making a Difference” by the National Conference of State Legislatures in 2016. Stovall and her two children live in Lake City.
Lee Cavender, State Board of Registration of Used Car Dealers and Motor Vehicle Parts Dealers (reappointment)
Cavender is the owner of Cavender Auto and Genesis Financial. He is the president of the Georgia Independent Auto Dealer Association and a member of the National Independent Automobile Dealers Association. Cavendar earned a bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering from the West Virginia University Institute of Technology. He and his wife, Natalie, have two children and reside in Cumming.
Bill Holt, State Board of Registration of Used Car Dealers and Motor Vehicle Part Dealers
Holt has worked as a new and used car dealer for more than 25 years. He and his wife, Tina, have three children and live in Ellijay.
David L. Johnson, State Board of Registration of Used Car Dealers and Motor Vehicle Part Dealers (reappointment)
Johnson is the owner and a partner of Cherokee Auto Group LLC. He previously owned and operated Dairy Queen locations and AT&T retail stores. Johnson sits on the board of directors for the Georgia Independent Auto Dealer Association and serves as first vice president. He and his wife, Lisa, have two children and reside in Canton.
Lewis Page, State Board of Registration of Used Car Dealers and Motor Vehicle Part Dealers
Page is the owner of Lewis Page Automotive Brokers. He is a member of St. Paul United Methodist and a graduate of North Hall High School. Page and his wife, Michelle, have three children and three grandchildren. They live in Gainesville.
Charles Garbutt, State Licensing Board for Residential and General Contractors
Garbutt is the owner and CEO of Garbutt Construction Company. He is LEED certified and holds certification as a Lean Construction Instructor from the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) Lean Construction Institute. Garbutt is also certified as a professional constructor by the American Institute of Constructors. He is a former president of Georgia AGC and received the 2018 Georgia AGC SIR Award. Garbutt earned a bachelor’s degree in Building Construction from Auburn University. He and his wife, Jane, have two children and reside in Dublin.
