Clarke County School District Students and Educator Receive FFA Honors

Six students from the Clarke County School district have recently earned honors with the Future Farmers of America and a Clarke County School District Teacher has been chosen to serve on a national diversity task force through the National Association of Agricultural Educators and the National FFA.  These students and teacher are from Hilsman, Cedar Shoals High School and Clarke Central High School.

“All of these individuals have exhibited the kind of hard work and dedication it takes to achieve excellence and we are exceedling  proud of them,” said Dr. Demond Means, Superintendent of the Clarke County School District. “To be recognized for their leadership and skills on the national level is a great honor and I look forward to seeing the amazing things they can accomplish going forward.”

Clarke Central Teacher Jillian Gordon Selected to Serve on National Board

Clarke Central’s Agriculture teacher Jillian Gordon has been selected to serve a multi-year term on the new Inclusion and Diversity Task Force through the National Association of Agricultural Educators and the National Future Farmers of America. The team consists of various stakeholders around the country with the goal of developing new curriculum and teacher training to assist the profession in continuing to move towards a place of inclusion for our students. Ms. Gordon joins Cedar Shoals teacher Julie Throne on the board.

Hilsman FFA Students are National Finalists

Congratulations to Hilsman Middle School Future Farmers of America members for being selected as finalists in the National Agriscience Fair! They are now top 12 in the nation and will interview at the National Convention in October. The names of the four FFA members are:

Cedar Shoals Students Achieve National FFA Honors

Two Cedar Shoals Future Farmers of America members have earned their American Degree. Natalie Stanley and Briah Thompson Carter submitted the completed applications that met the stringent qualifications to be awarded FFA's top honor. Only 1% of the National FFA Membership earn their American Degree which requires 2,250 hours of documented Supervised Agriculture Experience, as well as leadership, financial stewardship and service activities. They will receive their American Degree on Saturday, October 27th during the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, IN.

These two young ladies are the first FFA members from Cedar Shoals and Clarke County School District to achieve this esteemed award.
