The challenge of retaining a superintendency for long periods of time is evident in our state’s average superintendent tenure of 2.8 years.   Those who succeed for extended periods of time must be able to lead change, foster relationships, and continually readjust to the evolving internal and external dynamics.   The four one and a half day sessions will address problems of practice associated with the superintendency through an interactive format.

Among the acclaimed instructors will be the 2018 AASA National Superintendent of the Year, Dr. David Shuler; corporate leadership trainer, Colonel Lee Ellis; conflict transformation expert, Raye Rawls, J.D.; and marketing and communication specialist, Mr. Kirk Englehart.   Superintendents and retired superintendents such as Mr. Alvin Wilbanks, Dr. Buster Evans, Dr. Matt Arthur, Dr. Robin Hines, Dr. John Zauner, Dr. Cliff Cole, Dr. Sam King, Dr. Russ Cook and Dr. Brad Bryant, who have excelled in leading districts, will facilitate panel discussions and provide question and answer sessions.   Other distinguished participants include Georgia School Board Association Executive Director, Mrs. Valarie Wilson, Learn4Life Executive Director, Mr. Ken Zeff and Georgia legislators.   An online brochure describes the program in more detail and provides opportunity for registration for those superintendents with five or more years of experience in the position.

Time

Each session is scheduled for two days.  For each pair of dates, the first day is from 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM.  The second day is from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM.  The same pattern will be followed for each session unless otherwise noted.  The first day of instruction will be followed by a sponsored dinner for all participants.
