Seven Graduating Seniors Named Georgia Scholars
Friday, May 4th, 2018
Seven graduating seniors from Oconee County Schools have been named Georgia Scholars, a prestigious recognition from the Georgia Department of Education. A total of 208 students from across the state in both public and private schools have been named to the list, and OCS is the only system in Northeast Georgia to have students selected for this honor.
“We commend our graduating seniors selected as Georgia Scholars for displaying excellence in the classroom, in extracurricular activities, and in our community,” said Superintendent Jason Branch. “To be the only system in Northeast Georgia to receive this recognition highlights the commitment to excellence shared among students, teachers, and parents in Oconee County.”
Through the Georgia Scholar program, the Georgia Department of Education identifies and honors high school seniors who have achieved excellence in school and community life. Honorees are students who have carried exemplary course loads during their four years of high school; who performed excellently in all courses; who successfully participated in interscholastic events at their schools and in their communities; and who have assumed active roles in extracurricular activities sponsored by their schools. Each Georgia Scholar receives a seal for his or her diploma.
