Wednesday, March 14th, 2018
State Representative Jimmy Pruett (R-Eastman) was recently invited to participate in the proceedings of the International Trade Legislative Conference, co-chaired by the President of the National Assembly, Jacques Chagnon, and the President of the National Conference of State Legislatures, Senator Deb Peters, beginning March 16, 2018, at the Hilton Québec, Canada.
This conference seeks to mobilize parliamentarians from the Canadian, U.S. and Mexican federated states to discuss the major issues involved in renegotiating NAFTA for the benefit of the individuals they represent.
“I am grateful and humbled for the opportunity to express viewpoints, voice our state and district interests and share information with other parliamentarians from Canada, the United States and Mexico,” stated Rep. Pruett.
The NCSL is a U.S. organization grouping together the congresses of the 50 federated U.S. states and their legislative assemblies. The National Assembly of Québec has been an international affiliated member of the NCSL since 2000 and became the first international affiliated member to sit on the NCSL Executive Committee in 2005.
Pruett goes on to say, “If you had told me as a little boy from rural Georgia I would one day be helping to negotiate international trade agreements, I wouldn’t have believed it. It just goes to show anything is possible in our great country. I’m honored to partake in this historical event as we work together in renegotiating NAFTA for the betterment of all.”
