Tanya Adcock, a native and lifelong resident of Oconee County who has devoted most of her career to St. Mary's Health Care System, has been promoted to President of St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Greensboro.

"In her new role, Tanya will contribute to the continued success and growth of Good Samaritan while working in collaboration with leadership, staff, and the community it serves," said St. Mary's Health Care System President and CEO Don McKenna in making the announcement.

Adcock brings more than 20 years of nursing experience and 10 years of leadership experience to her new role. She began her career at St. Mary's in 1997 as a nurse extern. Since then, she has served in progressively more responsible nursing and leadership roles, including registered nurse in Labor and Delivery, palliative care manager, and, for the last five years, as director of Highland Hills Village.

Her leadership at Highland Hills was highlighted by significant improvements in resident satisfaction, safety and living environment. Highland Hills Village also became the first facility in Georgia to upgrade its license from personal care to assisted living.

In addition, she was named one of Georgia's Hospital Heroes in 2011 by the Georgia Hospital Association for her leadership in saving the life of a man who collapsed far from the nearest hospital. Adcock enlisted others to assist with CPR, call for an ambulance, and find an external defibrillator, with which she successfully returned the man's heart to a stable rhythm.

Adcock earned her associate's degree in nursing in 1998 from Athens Technical College and a master's degree in nursing leadership and management in 2012 from Walden University. She assumes the role of president of Good Samaritan Hospital from Montez Carter, who was recently promoted to be president of St. Mary's Hospital in Athens.
