Governor Nathan Deal signed Senate Bill 109 into Georgia law on Monday, May, 8, 2017. SB 109 addresses several healthcare topics including the creation of a “Nurse Licensure Compact” which was originally proposed in SB 166 sponsored by Sen. Renee Unterman (R – Buford).

“I want to commend everyone that worked together to get SB 109 passed with several important components that will benefit healthcare in Georgia,” said Sen. Unterman. “Nurses are not only some of the most compassionate and hardworking men and women, but also represent a vital pillar in our healthcare community through a lifetime devoted to the care and wellbeing of our citizens. I am overjoyed that our nurses will now be able to take part in an interstate network and help those in need across state lines.”

Under Section 3 of SB 109, the “Nurse Licensure Compact” is created and the Interstate Commission of Nurse Licensure Compact Administrators is established. General provisions and jurisdictions are defined in SB 109. The application process for multistate licensing and the coordinated licensure information system is addressed in this legislation.
