Staff Report From Athens CEO

Monday, April 24th, 2017

The twice annual Startup Stories speaker series returns to Athens for its sixth installment, bringing two tech startup founders to the historical Morton Theater stage on Tuesday, April 25th. Jason Robinson, founder of Athens-based education technology service company Free Radical Labs, and Marc Gorlin, founder of delivery service network Roadie out of Atlanta, will share their personal stories of startup entrepreneurship with the Athens community. Hosted by local economic development nonprofit Four Athens, Startup Stories is designed to provide a unique engagement opportunity for the community audience to hear directly from startup company founders about their entrepreneurial experiences.

Jason Robinson, PhD is the founder and Managing Member of Free Radical Labs, LLC, a technology curriculum integrator based in Athens, Georgia. With over 15 years of experience in research and development practice, engineering, and customer relations, Robinson helps educators and educational institutions bring leading edge technologies into the classroom. He holds a Doctoral and Master’s degree in Photonics from Oklahoma State University, and earned his Bachelor’s of Science in Chemistry from Xavier University in Louisiana.

Marc Gorlin will headline the evening, sharing his story of multiple startup ventures, including Roadie, his most recent, the first “on-the-way” delivery network founded in 2014. Prior to Roadie, Gorlin co-founded Kabbage Inc., where he also served as Chairman, which provides working capital to small and medium-sized businesses. Gorlin is perhaps best known for his endeavor in 1996 as co-founder and original board member of Pretty Good Privacy, a company formed to commercialize one of the most prevalent security standards used on the Internet. Gorlin’s story will be in a “fireside chat”-style conversation format on Tuesday evening, where he will respond directly to questions submitted by members of the local startup community beforehand.

Startup Stories VI is at the historical Morton Theater in Downtown Athens on Tuesday, April 25th as part of the Acropolis Innovation Festival.
