Caterpillar to Close Illinois Plant, No Effect on Athens Facility

A Friday announcement by earth-moving equipment manufacturer Caterpillar Inc. that it is closing an Illinois manufacturing facility and laying off 800 workers won’t affect its Athens plant, where the company produces small track-type tractors and small hydraulic excavators.
