Anthony Sabatino, MD, Named Chief Medical Officer of BCBSGa

Anthony Sabatino, MD, MBA, FIPP has been appointed Chief Medical Officer of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia. Dr. Sabatino joined BCBSGa in June 2016 to lead the company’s development and implementation of new provider collaboration and value-based strategies. In his new position, he will be responsible for strengthening relationships with the provider community, health care system partners and members.
Dr. Sabatino, recognized as a physician expert in pain management, holds four board certifications in the areas of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine. The World Institute of Pain designated Dr. Sabatino as a “Fellow of Interventional Pain.” A thought leader in his field, he is a nationally recognized lecturer, instructor, and member of several boards, including the Spine Intervention Society and the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians. He has been interviewed by national media, including National Public Radio and Bloomberg News, on trends that impact health care.

Prior to joining BCBSGa, Dr. Sabatino served as CEO and President of American Life Care, Inc. He is also the founder of Auxentius Medical, a medical device company, and holds the exclusive intellectual property rights for the development of a novel intervertebral disc replacement system.
Dr. Sabatino’ s postdoctoral training includes his internship at the Department of Surgery, Long Island Jewish Medical Center; residency at the Department of Anesthesiology, State University of New York at Stony Brook, where he was Chief Resident; and Fellowship year at the State University of New York in Pain Management and Cardiothoracic Anesthesia. Additionally, he completed his MBA at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
Dr. Sabatino is happily married to his high school sweetheart, Janet, and has two adult sons. The Sabatinos live in Brookhaven, GA.
