Senior Leadership Changes Announced at DDS & GDEcD

Gov. Nathan Deal nominated Georgia Department of Driver Services Deputy Commissioner Spencer R. Moore to replace current Commissioner Bert Brantley. This nomination will take effect pending approval from the Board of Driver Services. Brantley is being tapped as Chief Operating Officer of the Georgia Department of Economic Development and the executive director of Georgia Allies. This appointment takes effect January 18.
Spencer R. Moore, Commissioner, Department of Driver Services
Moore has served as the Deputy Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Driver Services since December 2012. His 20-year career in state government includes 14 years with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, where he served as the deputy director of the agency for six years. Moore started his state career as a parole officer with the State Board of Pardons and Paroles. He is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, the Georgia Sheriffs’ Association and Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police. Moore also serves as a national highway safety expert for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. He is a graduate of Morehouse College. Moore and his family reside in Gwinnett County.
Bert Brantley, Chief Operating Officer, Georgia Department of Economic Development
Brantley has served as the Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Driver Services since March 2016. His experience in state government includes four years as the director of communications and press secretary for Gov. Sonny Perdue. Brantley has also served in leadership and communications roles for the State Road and Tollway Authority, the Georgia Department of Transportation and the Georgia Department of Economic Development. He spent more than two years in private practice, advising corporate clients and leading communications efforts for campaigns such as the 2012 Charter School Constitutional Amendment. Brantley and his wife, Tonya, have two children and live in McDonough.
