Georgia nonprofits have received more than $1.62 million in funding as a result of grants from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation. The funding will support hunger relief, healthy eating and other critical local programs across the state.

“The Y is thrilled to once again receive the Walmart Foundation Grant for our year-round meal program; with this, Ys throughout the U.S. can continue to keep kids healthy and full so that they may succeed in school and reach their full potential,” said Jorge Perez, SVP of Programs & The Y Experience.

The funding awarded in Georgia is a combination of recent grant funding to national nonprofit organizations, who then redistributed the grants to select local affiliates across the state, as well as recent grants awarded by the Walmart Foundation’s State Giving Program.  In total, the grant funding amounts to more than $33 million nationwide and is estimated to provide more than 57 million meals to nearly 1.5 million people in communities throughout the country, including here in Georgia.

“Walmart is excited to continue helping the communities we serve,” said Glen Wilkins, director of public affairs and government relations at Walmart. “It is our mission to create opportunities that help people live better. These grants allow us to help nonprofit organizations fulfill their mission and continue on their path of service.”
