Oconee Heart and Vascular Center welcomes its ninth cardiologist on Nov. 1 as Ravi Sudhir Marfatia, M.D., begins seeing patients at the practice's main location on Daniells Bridge Road.

Dr. Marfatia comes to OHVC from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in Farmington, Conn., where he recently completed his fellowship in cardiology. His areas of focus include general cardiac patient care, echocardiography, nuclear cardiography, vascular ultrasound, and hypertension.

Dr. Marfatia earned his medical degree from Samaj's Medical College, University of Pune, India, in 2001 and completed his clinical clerkship at New Civil Hospital in Surat, India. He came to the United States in 2004 as a medical intern at the University of Connecticut and completed his medical residency there, also. He served as the Chief Resident in academic year 2007-2008 and earned the Internal Medicine Residency Program Director's Letter of Commendation.

From 2008 to 2013, Dr. Marfatia worked as a hospitalist at the John Dempsey Hospital/UConn Health Center in Farmington, Conn. During these same years, he completed his post-doctoral fellowship at the Cardiovascular Imaging Laboratory at Yale University in New Haven, Conn., and served as a hypertension research and clinical fellow at UConn School of Medicine. From 2008 to 2013 he was an assistant professor of medicine at UConn. For the last three years, he has devoted his efforts to his cardiology fellowship.

In addition to his work and education, Dr. Marfatia has extensive professional and public service experience, including serving as a volunteer with AmeriCorps VISTA in Hartford, Conn., and as a preceptor at UConn's Migrant Farm Worker Clinic. He has co-authored or presented numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, courses, lectures, abstracts and presentations.
