As a service to emergency medical service providers across Northeast Georgia, St. Mary's Health Care System will present its fall EMS Update on Nov. 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. Mary's Hospital, 1230 Baxter St., Athens.

The program will provide continuing education that is immediately useful for paramedics and emergency medical technicians in the field. The event is free to qualified providers. Up to 5 continuing education credits will be available. Participants should claim credit only for the hours they actually attend. Light breakfast and lunch will be provided, with on-site check in opening at 8:30 a.m. Free parking will be provided in the hospital's Lot B beside the main entrance off Baxter Street.

Presenters and their topics will be:

• Obstetric emergencies, presented by Ruth Cline, M.D., Athens OB/GYN

• HAZMAT emergencies, presented by Capt. John Scarborough, Athens-Clarke County Fire and Emergency Services

• Stress in EMS and public safety, presented by Chaplains Marc Lhowe and Steve Bauer, St. Mary's Health Care System

• STEMI case review, presented by Clay Chappell, M.D., Oconee Heart and Vascular Center

• Assessment of the older adult, presented by Farris Johnson, Jr., M.D., Johnson and Murthy Family Practice
