St. Mary's Auxiliary to Dedicate Veterans Commemorative Garden
Tuesday, October 25th, 2016
St. Mary's Auxiliary will dedicate a new Veterans' Commemorative Garden on Saturday, Nov. 5, at 11 a.m. in the flag court at the main entrance in front of the hospital at 1230 Baxter Street.
The garden will honor all persons who have served in any branch of the United States Armed Forces. Built entirely with donated funds, the garden will feature an original eagle statue by artist Tony Reece; benches for rest and reflection; landscaping, potted flowers and lighting, and, ultimately, shade trees for enhanced comfort. The garden is accessible from the front of the hospital and will be ADA compliant.
"The outpouring of support for this project has certainly been very humbling," says the Auxiliary's project chairperson, Cathy Hefner. "Very generous community members donated almost every aspect of the garden."
The dedication will feature the unveiling of the statue, a moment of prayer, and messages from leaders of the Auxiliary and St. Mary's. Light refreshments will be served and free parking will be available in Lot B, located near the flag court in front of the hospital off the main Baxter Street drive. Everyone is invited.
