Gov. Deal has invested a higher percentage of the state budget towards education than any other administration in 50 years, adding $1.5 billion to K-12 education over the past three years alone.

"Deal's record of supporting K-12 education cannot be disputed, and claims made by others that the OSD would be a robbery of funds will fall flat with voters," said Tom Willis, head of Opportunity for All Georgia Students. "We will campaign with a message that brings hope and opportunity to the tens of thousands of students trapped in chronically failing schools, and their parents left with no current alternatives."

Creation of the OSD would ensure that all money a school would normally receive remains in that school once it enters the OSD. Additionally, high performing schools in Georgia will not see existing funds diverted to fund those schools in the OSD. In fact, with more decision making in the hands of the school rather than a traditional district, the schools in the OSD will likely see more money spent in the classroom.
