Staff Report From Athens CEO

Tuesday, September 20th, 2016

Created by the need to tell the story of Athens as great place to live, work and play, a group of local entrepreneurs announced the establishment of Athensmade, an initiative to build awareness of local businesses and attract talented people to the Classic City.  This collaborative initiative is being supported by and developed with the Athens-Clarke County Economic Development Department.

“Athens is such a remarkable, vibrant, and unique community to live and work”, said Davis Knox, Chairman of the Board for Athensmade.  “Arts, music, and a creative spirit fuel a community pride that has created a wonderful environment for businesses to succeed.  We believe that Athensmade can play a significant role in promoting our city as one where entrepreneurs, young professionals and creative professionals thrive.”

Athensmade strives to help drive local economic growth and diversity by developing the brand of Athens through programs that build and support local businesses, assist entrepreneurs, and foster connections between local educators and our business community.  They are partnering with many existing organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce, Convention & Visitors Bureau, Downtown Development Authority, and the University of Georgia to give the outside world an access point to and perspective on our creatively diverse business community. The end goal is to engage the entire community in the development of a succinct and well known spirit of pride around doing business in Athens.

Athensmade’s activities will focus on programming that recognizes and promotes Athens-Clarke County businesses regionally and nationally, attracts talented workers to Athens, and connects educators and students to local businesses. Their tagline is “Amplifying Brands. Attracting Talent”.
