The University of Georgia Small Business Development Center’s Office of Minority Business Development is sponsoring a seminar, Doing Business with State and Local Governments, from 10 a.m. until noon Aug. 17 at the center’s offices in the Chicopee Complex, 1180 E. Broad St. in Athens.

This session costs $29, which includes refreshments and materials, Register at www.georgiasbdc.org/training or call (706) 542-6791 for more information. The registration deadline is noon Aug. 16.

The session will show business owners and others how to identify and register with local governments, determine their National Institute of Government Purchasing codes, and learn about general preferences offered by local governments.

Conducting business with governments can help businesses develop public-sector procurement. State governments often include similar agencies such as federal departments and might include state agencies such as the secretary of state and the departments of economic development, revenue and transportation.
