Ford Motor Company Fund, Akins Ford and Athens Ford have teamed up to donate a new Ford Transit to Downtown Ministries — an Athens non-profit organization that engages youth and their families in inner-city Athens through sports programs, after-school programs and other community projects

Downtown Ministries is one of 10 at-risk youth organizations supported by local Ford dealers and the Ford Motor Company Fund — the philanthropic arm of Ford Motor Company.

The Ford Transit will be used for the organization’s Downtown Academy, a private Christ-centered school that opened in August 2013.

Downtown Academy will use the van to transport kids to and from after-school programs and athletic activities, including football and basketball. Downtown Ministries’ mission is to build consistent relationships with youth and their families through programs that demonstrate Christ-centered hope and encouragement.

The van will be handed over during an 11 a.m. ceremony Friday at Downtown Ministries, located at 165 Pulaski Street in downtown Athens.

Since 2004, Ford Motor Company Fund has invested more than $11 million to support programs.
