The Food Bank of Northeast Georgia has announced it received a $150,000 contribution to support its A Fresh Approach to Ending Hunger campaign. The grant, provided by the Wal-Mart Foundation’s State Giving Program, will go toward developing additional facilities used to provide food to northeast Georgia residents.

“The support Wal-Mart has given us is critical to making progress towards our mission of ending hunger,” said John Becker, president and CEO of the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia. “These funds will help us put together the facilities needed to provide good, heathy and wholesome food to the ill, needy and minor children free of charge.”

The Food Bank of Northeast Georgia serves 14 counties.

“We are proud to support the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia,” said Glen Wilkins, Georgia’s director of public affairs and government relations at Wal-Mart. “Wal-Mart and the Wal-Mart Foundation are committed to supporting programs that create a positive impact in their communities.”

In the past fiscal year, Wal-Mart and the Wal-Mart Foundation gave more than $45.68 million in cash and in-kind contributions to support nonprofit organizations and programs in Georgia focused on fighting hunger and promoting healthy eating, workforce development, disaster preparedness and other needs specific to many Georgia communities.

To be considered for support, organizations must submit applications through the Wal-Mart Foundation State Giving Program’s online grant application system. Eligible applicants must have a current 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status.
