Scramble for July 1st Downtown Athens Fireworks Show Funding Continues
Wednesday, June 22nd, 2016
Working to make up a funding shortfall as a planned July 1 fireworks show and celebration in downtown Athens to mark the Independence Day holiday approaches, the Athens Downtown Development Authority is asking Athens-Clarke County’s mayor and commission to allocate an additional $9,000 in local hotel-motel tax funding to the event.
That request will be heard at a special called meeting of the mayor and commission at 7 p.m. Tuesday, at which time the ADDA will be able to point to the recent receipt of two $10,000 donations to help defray the estimated $82,401 cost of the event.
