Winterville resident and attorney, Dan Aldridge, unearthed exciting discoveries in the world of flight and set in Athens with his book, To Lasso the Clouds: The Beginning of Aviation in Georgia (Mercer, May 2, 2016).

The story of the first airplane flight in Georgia has not been told correctly in more than one-hundred years. Even more surprising, the first flight of a monoplane (single wing plane) in the U.S. took place in Athens and the two young pilots have never been recognized for their achievement. Until now.
