Commissioner Tim Echols' Annual Georgia Clean Energy Roadshow Opens June 14th

Recognizing the economic contributions that solar, natural gas, propane, biomass, electric power and wind have contributed to Georgia’s clean energy growth, Public Service Commissioner Tim Echols will host a series of public seminars around the state June 14 - 24, 2016 alongside municipal, county, and other local elected officials and top business executives representing fleets and clean energy companies.

The Clean Energy Roadshow will visit eight cities from Dahlonega to Savannah and highlight Georgia’s energy outlook and the advancements in vehicle technology, agricultural equipment and clean power generation that bring cost-cutting and revenue generating opportunities to local governments and private industry.

"I started the Clean Energy Roadshow to help business and local governments learn more about alternative fuels and clean energy" said Commissioner Tim Echols. "This 6th annual event will focus on sustainable practices, vehicles and energy technologies that are working for cities, schools, businesses and transit.”

Each event will focus on the economic development benefits and strategies for funding new technologies in vehicles, equipment and energy generation. Tour stops and highlighted projects include:   

Dahlonega - Tuesday, June 14, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. The University of North Georgia, 82 College Circle, 30597. Hosted by the University of North Georgia. Dahlonega is the home to the North Georgia Premium Outlets which has recently installed electric vehicle chargers.

Gwinnett - Wednesday, June 15, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. 6500 Sugarloaf Parkway, Duluth, Georgia 30097. Hosted by the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce. Gwinnett is home to UPS which operates one of the largest private alternative fuel fleets in the industry with more than 3,150 alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles. It is currently undergoing a major expansion of their CNG and Propane vehicle fueling. By the end of 2017, the company's goal is for its alternative fuel and advanced technology fleet to drive one billion miles.

Cobb County - Thursday, June 16, 9 a.m.-12.p.m. 135 Riverside Parkway, Austell, Georgia 30168. Hosted by Riverside EpiCenter. The City of Atlanta recently completed the purchase of 20 natural gas vehicles for waste collection and 60 electric vehicles for its fleet while Cobb County is ranked in the top 30 Best Fleets in America.

LaGrange - Friday, June 17, 9 a.m. - 12p.m. 1503 Orchard Hill Road, 30241. Hosted by The Ray C. Anderson Foundation and Interface. The Ray C. Anderson Foundation has designated “The Ray” a section of I-85 at the western state line with Alabama as a net-zero highway corridor and built the first Interstate highway solar-EV charging station with KIA at Exit 2. Kimberly-Clark is participating in the Georgia Power Advanced Solar Initiative.

Albany - Tuesday, June 21, 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. Civic Center, 100 West Oglethorpe Boulevard, 31701. Hosted by Albany-Dougherty Chamber of Commerce. Albany will be cutting the ribbon on their new CNG fueling station on this date. Procter & Gamble’s manufacturing plant has completed the largest biomass furnace in the state.  Georgia Power and the Navy are building a 44 Megawatt solar facility on the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany.

Americus - Wednesday, June 22. 9 a.m.-12 p.m. 800 Georgia Southwestern State University Drive 31709. Hosted by Georgia Southwestern State University. Sumter County just completed the purchase of propane school buses and a project is underway with the National Park Service at Andersonville National Cemetery to convert mowers and trucks to use propane. The first solar panel in Georgia was used in this area and is in the Leslie, GA Telephone Museum.

Savannah - Thursday, June 23, 9 a.m.–12p.m. 5717 White Bluff Rd, Savannah, Georgia 31405. Hosted by Savannah Technical College. Savannah Tech offers one of only two certified programs in the state with wind and solar technology training. Alongside alternative fuel vehicles, the college will be displaying model wind turbines and discussing solar and battery storage advancements. Another new CNG station operated by Enmark, a subsidiary of Colonial is nearing completion.

Savannah - Friday June 24, 3 p.m.-5 p.m. One International Drive, Hutchinson Island, 31402. Savannah International Trade and Convention Center. Hosted by Georgia Municipal Association, the annual event which draws thousands of municipal leaders each year will offer this preview look at energy and alternative fuels the afternoon prior to the convention opening.
