St. Mary's Sacred Heart Hospital interim President Jeff English has announced the appointment of two new managers to oversee the hospital's departments of surgical services and rehabilitation.

Christine Davis, RN, BSN, is now manager of surgical services. Davis grew up in Hart County and received her bachelor's degree in nursing from Bob Jones University in Greenville, S.C. She has been a surgical nurse since 2004 and began her association with Ty Cobb Healthcare System, predecessor to St. Mary's Sacred Heart Hospital, while still in college. Additional experience includes a year of volunteer service in 2002 at a nursing home in Virginia and several humanitarian mission trips to Asia and Africa. She and her husband, Richard, have a 5-year-old son.

Reid Lawson, DPT, is now manager of Rehabilitation Services. Lawson has 26 years of physical therapy experience in rural hospitals. In 2011, he returned to school to earn his doctor's degree in physical therapy from Utica College. He comes to Sacred Heart Hospital from Jesup, Ga., where he has served as director of rehabilitation at Wayne Memorial Hospital for the past 14 years. A member of state and national professional organizations, Lawson currently serves on the Georgia State Board of Physical Therapy. He and his wife, Ashley – who also is a physical therapist – have four children, two at the University of Georgia and two in high school.

"By promoting Christine and bringing Reid to our community, we continue to raise the bar for the quality and professionalism of St. Mary's Sacred Heart Hospital," English said. "The experience and dedication they bring to these clinical leadership roles is invaluable. I'm very proud to have them as colleagues, and also proud of the progress we are making here at Sacred Heart."

In her role, Davis oversees the management of Sacred Heart's surgical services department, including four operating rooms, two endoscopy rooms, an outpatient surgery area, and a post-anesthesia care unit. Common surgical services at Sacred Heart include general surgery, OB/GYN, orthopedic, gastroenterology, ophthalmology, podiatry, pulmonology, urology and ear, nose and throat procedures.

Lawson's duties encompass the management of Sacred Heart's rehabilitation services, including physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech-language pathology. The department works with inpatients and outpatient to improve quality of life by reducing pain and maximizing ability to function following physical injuries, accidents, illness and stroke.
