Athens Regional Foundation Receives Plush Donations from Petsmart

Staff Report From Athens CEO

Friday, November 6th, 2015

For the second year, shoppers at PetSmart have the opportunity to purchase “Lucky” or “Chance,” a plush cat or dog, to provide a warm cuddle to pediatric patients at Athens Regional Medical Center.

Through the holidays, these precious stuffed animals will be available at the store’s check-out counters. The toys are then distributed to the Athens Regional Pediatrics Unit and other areas where children are served such as the Emergency Department and Pediatric Rehabilitation. Receiving a special friend makes any visit to Athens Regional a little brighter for young patients.

Last year, PetSmart donated more than 700 stuffed animals. This year, the Athens location has raised its sights. “We are shooting for over 1,000 this year and we are off to a good start,” said Glenn Gulley of PetSmart after only one week of sales.

A portion of the sale price also goes to fund spay and neuter clinics so animals also benefit from the program in keeping with PetSmart’s mission to serve pets in our community.
