St. Mary's & UGAA Host Seminar on Sports Injury & Nutrition Nov. 17th
Thursday, October 22nd, 2015
When an athlete is injured, the right nutritional choices can help speed healing. That's the core message of a presentation by University of Georgia Athletic Association Director of Sports Nutrition Jen Ketterly, MS, RD, CSSD, LD, on Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 6:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Hospital, 1230 Baxter St., Athens.
"Nutritional Interventions for Injury to Recovery" is open to athletes, coaches and others interested in the topic, and is especially geared to the needs of those working in clinical or sports medicine settings. The program is free but a light meal is provided, so reservations are required. Please RSVP to [email protected] by Nov. 10.
Ketterly joined the Bulldog staff in July 2011 and has directed the development of a comprehensive nutrition department for the athletic association. Along with a staff of sports dietitians, she oversees nutrition services for UGAA's 21 sport programs, including the clinical, foodservice and educational needs of UGA's student-athletes.
A dietitian with more than 15 years of experience, Ketterly previously led the sports nutrition department at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was a staff dietitian at the University of Connecticut. She received her undergraduate degree in nutritional sciences from Cornell University, where she played basketball, and her master's degree in clinical nutrition from the University of Kentucky. Ketterly also has coached women's basketball at the high school and AAU levels.
