Dr. Mitch Cook Honored With 2015 Family Medicine Community and Volunteer Services Award

Athens physician Mitch Cook, DO, FAAFP was recently selected as the recipient of the 2015 Family Medicine Community and Volunteer Services Award by the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians.
 
According to the Wayne K. Hoffman, MD, FAAFP and President of the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians, “This prestigious award recognizes physicians who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to support their communities; physicians who have made outstanding contributions in welfare, education and healthcare.”
 
“This is a great honor for me,” said Dr. Cook. “I’m humbled to be recognized for doing the things I love – helping people any way I can. “
 
Dr. Cook received his undergraduate degree in Microbiology and Psychology at The University of Georgia, Athens GA, before pursuing his medical degree at West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. He continued his medical training through Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Dr. Cook performed his residency at Jefferson Regional Medical Center is Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
 
A member of the Athens Regional Physician Group, Dr. Cook is certified by the American Board of Family Practice. He is also a Clinical Associate Professor of Georgia Regents University / UGA Medical Partnership Campus and Department of Family Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia.
 
Dr. Cook is a volunteer physician with the Mercy Clinic in Athens, GA and a Community Leader with Athens Church. He has served on medical mission trips to Honduras with World Gospel Outreach over the last 15 years.
