Tuesday, August 25th, 2015
St. Mary’s Wellness Center has added registered dietitian Courtney Vickery to its full-time staff, bringing a complete range of nutrition services to the center’s existing complement of fitness equipment, classes, personal training, and therapeutic massage.
Vickery holds a Master’s degree in foods and nutrition and a gerontology certificate from the University of Georgia. As part of her program at UGA, she completed a dietetic internship that focused on clinical nutrition, nutrition guidelines for school nutrition personnel, and community education about hand washing, food safety and MyPlate meal planning. Prior to joining the Wellness Center, she worked as a clinical dietitian with Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.
In addition, Vickery is a certified/registered fitness instructor in yoga, aerobics, RIPPED, TRX Rip, Schwinn Cycling, Les Mills Body Combat and Tapless Step. She is certified by the American Red Cross in CPR/AED, first aid, and CPR for the Healthcare Provider. One work duty she particularly enjoys is leading weekly yoga classes for UGA football team members under St. Mary’s contract as the official healthcare provider of the UGA Athletic Association.
Vickery is able to help with any nutritional counseling need, including reaching a healthy weight, healthy eating for athletes, and the nutritional component of managing complex conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
Counseling helps adults assess their nutritional needs, make changes to their diet and measure success. Services include one-on-one counseling sessions that range from a single 30-minute appointment for $25 to 24 weekly sessions for $600. Alternate packages are available that combine nutritional counseling with personal training and/or massage, and an email option is available for clients who prefer more flexibility.
