Athens-Clarke Commissioners Debate Eastside Grocery Store Proposal

A number of Athens-Clarke County commissioners aren’t particularly enthusiastic about a rezoning request that could bring an Aldi discount grocery store to the county’s eastside — Barnett Shoals Road at its intersection with College Station Road.
Commissioner Sharyn Dickerson, whose eastside district is near the proposed Aldi site, said flatly at Tuesday’s agenda-setting session for the commission’s July 7 voting meeting that neither she nor Commissioner Andy Herod, whose district includes the 5-acre Barnett Shoals tract, will vote in favor of the rezoning.
