Bill Could Hinder Effort to Bring Grocery Store to Downtown Athens

Five words in a piece of legislation recently signed by Gov. Nathan Deal could hinder local efforts to bring a grocery store into downtown Athens.
Somewhat ironically, those words — “at least 10,000 square feet” — are contained in a measure pushed by state Rep. Jay Roberts, R-Ocilla, and state Sen. Tyler Harper, R-Ocilla, written specifically to help the small south Georgia town they represent to land a grocery store which the two lawmakers said will bring 200 jobs into the community.
