Athens Regional Foundation Seeks Nominations for J.W. Fanning Humanitarian of the Year

The Athens Regional Foundation encourages community members to nominate individuals for the 2015 “J.W. Fanning Humanitarian of the Year Award.” The award honors Dr. J.W. Fanning, who dedicated his life to community service and served on the Board of Athens Regional Medical Center.

2015 commemorates the 26th anniversary of the award, and this year’s recipient will be honored at the annual Pillar Society Reception to be held Thursday, March 5, 2015, at Athens Country Club.

The Foundation will present this award to an admirable individual who meets the following standards:

• Has made significant contributions to Athens Regional through time, interest and commitment to the Medical Center and the community

• Has made significant contributions as a volunteer with community service that improves the health, welfare and quality of life for area residents

• Has high personal standards in life

• Is a member of the community, an active or retired physician, current or former Medical Center or Foundation Board member or Foundation committee member

• Is not an employee of the health system

The 2014 “Humanitarian Award” was presented to Dr. Elizabeth Nevil for her years of dedicated service to Athens Regional and the community. Other past recipients include Bill Saye, Marlo Wiggans, Janey M. Cooley, Joy T. Elder, Chet Malanoski, Charlie Upchurch, Buck Griffin, Louise Boyce, Dr. Bothwell Traylor, Mary Beth McDonald, Polly Moore, Howard Stroud, Jan Rhodes, Len Sapera, Karen Atkinson, Tal DuVall, Dr. Stephen Lucas, Miriam Huebner, Carol Winthrop, Shelby Lacy, Carl Nichols, Sandy Boyles, Jane Douglas and Marilyn Farmer.
