Attorney General Sam Olens has announced the following personnel appointments for the Department of Law.

Britt Grant has been appointed Solicitor General, effective Jan. 6, 2015. Ms. Grant most recently served as Counsel for Legal Policy. As Solicitor General, Ms. Grant will collaborate with Department of Law attorneys on significant litigation and oversee appeals. Prior to joining the Attorney General’s Office, Ms. Grant was an attorney at Kirkland & Ellis in Washington, D.C. A graduate of Stanford Law School, Ms. Grant served as a law clerk to Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. Ms. Grant replaces Nels Peterson, who has been appointed Vice Chancellor for Legal Affairs for the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia.

Timothy Butler, currently an attorney at the Federal Trade Commission in Atlanta, has been appointed Counsel for Legal Policy, effective Jan. 16, 2015. After graduating from Stanford Law School, Mr. Butler was a law clerk to Judge Grady Jolly on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and an attorney at Quinn Emanuel, Urquhart & Sullivan in Redwood Shores, Calif. As Counsel for Legal Policy, Mr. Butler will serve as the chief liaison to the General Assembly and manage major policy issues.
