Georgia Conflict Center presents a free lunchtime lecture, “Conflict Resolution in the Workplace” at the Athens-Clarke County Library on Wednesday, Nov. 19

Would you like to have a more productive and peaceful workplace? Plan to pack a lunch and attend the Georgia Conflict Center’s free lecture, “Conflict Resolution in the Workplace” on Wednesday, Nov. 19.

Dr. Susan S. Raines will cover various aspects of conflict management and its application in the job setting, include how to reduce turnover, reengage disengaged workers, prevent and reduce discrimination and create a positive workplace culture.

Whether your place of employment is private, public or nonprofit, we all deal, at times, with conflict. The best managers and employees are those who can foster collaboration and prevent or help to resolve conflict. Dr. Raines has plenty of real-world experience as an on-call ombudsman for businesses of all shapes and sizes, helping to reduce turnover, improve customer service and teach managerial skills.

Dr. Raines specializes in teaching conflict resolution skills. Her book, Conflict Management for Managers: Resolving Workplace, Client, and Policy Disputes, published last year, combines the latest research on workplace conflict with real-world skills and tools to handle a wide range of potential conflicts. She is a professor of conflict management at Kennesaw State University and the Editor-in-Chief of Conflict Resolution Quarterly.

Georgia Conflict Center is an Athens-based non-profit that works to promote peacemaking by teaching non-violent communication skills and restorative justice practices.  The group, led by Executive Director John Lash who holds a master’s degree in Conflict Resolution and a bachelor’s in Human Resources works in local schools, jails, neighborhoods, faith communities, and businesses and also offers workshops to the staff of other non-profit organizations.  For more information on Georgia Conflict Center, please visit us on the web at gaconflict.org
