Commissioners to Consider Contract to Update Historic Morton Theatre

A $1.3 million sales-tax-funded project to update the historic Morton Theatre in downtown Athens is slated for final approval at the Athens-Clarke County Board of Commissioners’ next regular meeting, where the board will be asked to move more than $750,000 from the ongoing Athens-Clarke County Jail expansion project to cover a budget shortfall for the theatre.
The topic is on the board’s agenda for its Tuesday work session, scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at 120 Dougherty St.
