In celebration of National Waffle Week and its 59-year heritage, Waffle House restaurants will partner with the United Service Organizations (USO) to lift the spirits of America's troops and their families.
On September 5, 1955, two neighbors, WWII veterans Joe Rogers, Sr., and Tom Forkner, opened the first Waffle House restaurant in Avondale Estates, GA. In honor of the founders and US troops everywhere, Waffle House restaurants is donating 10 cents of every waffle sold onFriday September 5, 2014, nationwide.
Since its establishment in 1941, the USO has been dedicated to lifting the spirits of our nation's troops and their families. The USO accomplishes this mission by delivering valued programs, morale-boosting services and engaging entertainment that help them feel appreciated for their service. From providing No-Dough dinners to military families right before their payday to celebrating birthdays with troops far from home, today's USO remains a home away from home for the men and women who serve the United States.
"Waffle House is proud to back such a worthy cause," said Waffle House President and CEOWalt Ehmer. "We encourage all of our regulars in the Waffle Nation to stand with us and support the USO."
"We are excited that Waffle House has chosen the USO as their way to show support for our men and women in uniform and their families," said Christy Hartsell, USO Vice President of Corporate Alliances. "Their generous contribution will help us continue our mission of improving the lives of the troops and military families who sacrifice so much for our country."
In addition to supporting the USO, Waffle House customers can enjoy one free topping with the purchase of a waffle during National Waffle Week, August 31-September 6.
