Friday, June 20th, 2014
Bucky Dent, a former shortstop with the New York Yankees and Most Valuable Player in the 1978 World Series, will host a youth baseball clinic on Saturday, July 5, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Lake Oconee Academy Baseball Field, 1021 Titan Circle, Greensboro.
The clinic is open to children ages 7-12. The fee is $30, with a portion of the proceeds going to support St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Greensboro. Maximum enrollment is 80 children.
Dent, a native of Georgia and a member of the Reynolds community, is a three-time Major League All-Star who earned two World Series rings with the Yankees in 1977 and 1978. He and his team of assistant coaches will lead clinic participants through exercises to build throwing, fielding and defensive skills. The day will end with a scrimmage game. Dent will be wearing his Yankees uniform and will be available for photos and autographs with clinic participants.
Participants are asked to bring their own equipment, including a baseball glove, and to wear long pants and cleats or sneakers. Parents are also encouraged to bring a glove and participate with their child. In case of rain, the clinic will be held in the Lake Oconee Academy gym, so all participants should bring sneakers; cleats are not permitted inside the gym.
At the clinic, Dent and his partner, Larry Hoskin, plan to announce plans for a fall Legends of the Links golf tournament to benefit St. Mary’s Good Samaritan.
