St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital will hold its first-ever 5K-Run for Stroke Awareness on Saturday, June 28, starting at 7:30 a.m. from the front doors of the hospital at 5401 Lake Oconee Parkway.
The event will raise awareness about stroke prevention and treatment, as well as funds for Good Samaritan’s stroke services. Runners and walkers are invited.
Participants and community members can receive free blood pressure screenings and BMI measurements. Information also will be available about stroke, chest pain and cardiac catheterization, and a booth will be set up to assist with Medicaid enrollment for anyone who qualifies.
Special guests will include cardiologist Clay Chappell, M.D., of Oconee Heart and Vascular Center, and Darlene Morocco, RN, director of St. Mary’s Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. Both will be available to talk with participants who have questions about heart health and how it affects your risk of stroke.
Registration is $25 through June 14; $30 thereafter. All pre-registered participants are guaranteed a t-shirt. T-shirts also will be available on race day while supplies last. Race timing is provided by Classic Race Services, and prizes will be awarded three-deep to male and female winners overall, Masters, and in age brackets from 10-and-under to 75-and-over. The Good Samaritan 5K for Stroke Awareness is part of the Clover Glove and Black Box race series.
Race-day registration and runner check-in will open at 6:30 a.m. in the hospital’s front parking lot. Participants can park on the hospital campus. To register, go to www.active.com, www.classicraceservices.com, or call 706.540.8397.
