Commission Races Show Election Diversity
Monday, May 12th, 2014
An open seat in a reconfigured district that includes some of the most politically active neighborhoods in Athens-Clarke County has led to a crowded field in one county commission race, while another commission seat being vacated by the incumbent drew just one candidate.
Yet another commission race is a near-rematch of a 2010 contest.
In the race for an east Athens commission seat, an outspoken critic of the county government staff is facing a former employee of the county government, and for the last of the five commission seats on the ballot, the incumbent will be returning without opposition.
Thus the stage is set for balloting in the nonpartisan Athens-Clarke County Commission races in the May 20 primary election.
