$50M SunTrust Development Hits Small Milestone with Plans Submission
Thursday, September 19th, 2013
The developers behind the six-story, $50 million development planned for the Sun Trust lot in downtown Athens submitted plans to Athens-Clarke County recently, marking a small milestone for the project.
It still needs to receive final approval from the Athens-Clarke County planning department and work through several permits, including those relating to historical appropriateness for part of a building from the 1950s and demolition permits, but David S. Dwyer, a local representative of the project, said it is still on track for a spring 2015 opening.
“This is the stage where things start to become real,” he said.
The plans, as submitted now, would feature 292 bedrooms — 231 in one-bedroom aparments — and 271 parking spaces in a deck wrapped and covered by the retail and residential components. It would also feature 14 bicycle parking spaces.
