A free seminar aimed at new and existing small businesses will be held Aug. 12 at University of Georgia Small Business Development Center.

The event, co-hosted by the SBDC’s Office of Minority Business Development and East Athens Development Corporation, is titled “8(a) BD Certification Step-by-Step for Small Businesses” and will provide a checklist, examples and exhibits necessary for the certification application. It will be presented by SBDC business consultant Lloyd Atkins, who specializes in certifications.

The free event will run 10 a.m. to noon at the Athens SBDC offices in the Chicopee Complex at 1180 E. Broad St. To register, call Clothilda Barnett at (706) 208-0048 or email [email protected]. The registration deadline is 4 p.m. Thursday.
