This year marks the 10th anniversary of 100+ Women Who Care Athens, a grassroots philanthropic group that has united local women to create meaningful impact in the Athens community since 2015. Over the past decade, the organization has donated an impressive $265,000 to 34 local nonprofit organizations, offering critical support to causes that serve the Athens area.

Founded by Sherry Clouser, 100+ Women Who Care Athens was built on a simple but powerful idea: that collective giving magnifies individual impact.

Clouser said, “One of the greatest gifts of 100+ Women Who Care Athens has been the chance to learn more about our community. Through members’ heartfelt pitches and visiting with our grant recipients, I’ve discovered the incredible work of local nonprofits and the many ways Athenians care for one another. Ten years in, I am deeply grateful for what we’ve accomplished together and excited for the good yet to come.”

Since its first meeting in March 2015, the group has gathered quarterly to hear member presentations for nonprofits the nominate. Each member commits to donating $100 per quarter ($400 annually), and votes to determine which organization will receive that quarter’s pooled contribution. A 50% matching grant from the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation has amplified many of these gifts, helping extend the group’s impact even further.

In total, the group has hosted 111 nonprofit presentations, creating a platform for awareness and support well beyond financial giving.

Nonprofits supported over the past ten years include Books for Keeps, Support for Immigrant Families in Crisis, Athens Area Diaper Bank, and The Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement and many more organizations working across health, education, housing, and youth development.

What began as a few women wanting to make a difference has grown into a thriving movement of over 50 committed members—and the group isn’t slowing down. As 100+ Women Who Care Athens enters its second decade, the organization is focused on expanding membership and continuing its mission of empowering local nonprofits through collective action.
